London hat seit Jahren einen speziellen Platz in meinem Herzen. Wenn Wien meine große Liebe ist, dann ist London der verführerische große Bruder. Mindestens einmal im Jahr steht diese wunderbare Stadt auf meinem Reiseagenda. My soul is very british! Über die Jahre haben sich hier natürlich einige Lieblingsplätze herauskristallisiert. Hier kommt eine kleine Auflistung meiner aktuellen Favoriten.
London has been one of my favorite cities since I can remember. I guess you can say that Vienna is my true love, in this case London is the handsome little brother. Dean Street Townhouse
“I don't need therapy. I just need to go to England... and a Bloody Mary for breakfast!”
Wenn man gut frühstücken will, dann ist man beim Dean Street Townhouse definitiv bei der richtigen Adresse. Hier gibt es wohl den besten Bloody Mary der Stadt. Nach einer Ale-Verkostung in den Londoner Pubs ist das all I need... und vielleicht noch Eggs Benedict!
If you are a fan of good breakfast and honestly – who isn't – you should definitely visit the Dean Street Townhouse with probably the best Bloody Mary in Town. Just what you need after long night of pale tasting in London's Pubs. And of course Eggs Benedict!
Darwin Brasserie
Der Sky Garden im Walkie Talkie Building ist mir sehr ans Herz gewachsen. Der Ausblick ist magisch und ich könnte Stunde um Stunde hier oben verbringen. Bei einem Smoked Salmon & einem Smashed Avocado Toast kann man all seine Sorgen hinter sich lassen. Unbedingt vorher reservieren! Das Lokal ist bei Touristen und Locals gleichermaßen beliebt. Mit meinem Dackelblick konnte ich für uns aber trotzdem einen tollen Tisch ergattern.
The Sky Garden in the Walkie Talkie Building has a very special place in my heart. The view is just magical and time is passing by when you are up here. Forget about your problems while having a smoked salmon & a smashed avovado toast. Plan ahead and make a reservation! The Brasserie is well-visited by locals and tourists. But I was very persuasive so we got a table anyway.
St. Dunstan in the East
Vom Walkie Talkie ist es nicht weit zu St. Dunstan, einem kleinen Park in einer zerfallenen Kirche. Die Stimmung dort hat, wenn das Licht durch die zerfallenen Kirchenfenster fällt, etwas Mystisches. Kombiniert mit einem Spaziergang entlang der Themse, um das typische Touriprogramm abzuhaken, hat man den perfekten "London for First Timers" Tag.
Not far from the Walkie Talkie Bulding you can find St. Dunstan, a small park in the ruins of a church. It's hard to describe the mystical mood you feel when the light falls through the old broken windows of the church. Combined with a walk along the thames you've got the perfect day for London-First-Timers.
Hampstead Heath & Highgate Cemetery
Hampstead Heath ist mein liebster Park in London. Ich könnte stundenlang über den Highgate Cemetery spazieren und die Geschichten längst vergangener Zeit in mich aufsaugen. Jaja, ich weiß auch nicht, warum ich Friedhöfe so faszinierend finde. (I know, I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo...) Vom Highgate Cemetery geht man ungefähr 8 Minuten zu Hampstead Heath. Dort schnappt man sich einen tollen Platz im Gras und genießt in aller Ruhe den Ausblick über diese wunderbare Stadt.
Hampstead Heath ist my favorite park in London. I could stroll around the Highgate cemetery for hours and soak in the stories of a long forgotten time. Yeah, I know, I am a creep I'm a weirdo, but there's something fascinating about cemeteries. From the Highgate Cemetery it's an 8 minute walk to Hampftead Heath where you can watch the sunset with a wonderful view over this wonderful city.
Greenwich
Das Royal Observatory liegt im Osten Londons. Die Gegend um den Null-Meridian ist so grün, dass es fast schon ein bisschen surreal wirkt. Ich genieße es jedes Mal sehr, wenn wir über den großen Park schlendern oder die Studenten beobachten, wie sie zu ihren Vorlesungen an der Uni gleich vis-à-vis hetzen. Lasst euch Greenwich auf keinen Fall entgehen! Man hat nicht oft die Gelegenheit am Mittelpunkt der Welt zu stehen.
The Royal Observatory is located in the East-London. Around the area of meridian of origin you can find the greenest green you will ever see. It's quite surreal. I love sitting in the grass and watching the students rushing around to be on time to their lecture at the university straight ahead. Don't miss out on Greenwich. How often do you have the opportunity to stand on the center of the world?
Queen of Hoxton
Eines meiner Lieblingslokale ist definitiv die Queen of Hoxton. Die Musik ist gut, das Bier auch und sollte es einem drinnen zu eng werden kann man auf die bunte Dachterrasse flüchten. Mittwochs ist immer Drag Bingo! Für 1 Pfund bekommt ihr ein Bingo Ticket und könnt euch auf einen außergewöhnlichen Abend gefasst machen!
When out drinking my pub of choice is the Queen of Hoxton. The music is awesome, the beer is awesome and if you feel the need of fresh air you can spend your night at the rooftop terrace. On Wednesdays we do Drag Bingo! A Ticket costs 1 pound and it's a guaranty for a special eveneing.
The Ned
Ich glaube nichts ist britischer als ein Afternoon Tea im Ned. Die typisch britische Atmosphäre zieht einen gleich in seinen Bann. Scones, Jam, Sandwiches und Torten aller Art sind hier im Package inkludiert. Wer noch ein bisschen in die Tasche greift bekommt noch ein Gläschen Perrier-Jouet dazu. Mein liebster Champagner btw.
There's nothing more british than the afternoon tea in the Ned. The typical britsh atmosphere drags you in right away. Scones, jam, sandwiches and cakes in different variies are included in the package. When you are in a bubbly mood you can order a glass of Perrier–Jouet for some extra money. One of my favorite sparkling friends.
The Sitara
Wer London sagt muss auch Indien sagen... oder so ähnlich... Denn wenn man in England ist, ist es quasi verpflichtend bei einem indischen Restaurant vorbeizuschauen! The Sitara ist hier meine absolute Empfehlung. Die Speisen sind authentisch und während man sein Curry verspeist kann den jazzigen Klängen der Live-Band lauschen. Für mich ist das die perfekte Mischung!
On some times London feels like India to me... I have never been to India but however... If you are in London you have the duty to taste some Indian food! Seriously! I can highly recommend the Sitara. The meals are very authentic and while enjoying your delicious curry you can listen to the jazzy sounds of a live-band. What could the heart desire more?
